My Top 5 Teaching Outfits of 2009

One of the luxuries of being a professor is the freedom of choices not often offered to people who work 9 to 5 jobs.  There are - of course - disadvantages: there is always more research, writing, grading, grant writing, etc. to be done, and the pressure to get work done doesn't end at 5pm.  (If you think academics have a cushy life, grade a stack of fifty 8-10 page papers.  It will change your mind in a hurry.)  We can, however, sometimes set our schedules a little more flexibly than those in other professions, and there is (although this to some extent depends on the institution) tremendous freedom in what academics can wear to campus to teach in.  Some choose a classic professorial look of jeans and a blazer.  Some choose to dress like they did as (under)grad students in jeans and a hoodie.  Some choose to wear a dress and a cardigan.  Here are my top 5 teaching outfits of 2009.  (They have all appeared on the blog, and I tried not to let the comments section sway me in my choices.  I wanted these to be my favorites.)

5. Last Class!

3. New Hair and New Trends

2. Belted!

1. Purple and Red in 1863

Perhaps you will have noticed that I really do tend to prefer skirts and dresses over pants, that I'm really into cardigans and belts, and that I love these spectator pumps because they go with so much of what's in my wardrobe.  Which of these did you like the best?  Did you have a favorite teaching/work outfit of 2009?  What was it?  What types of outfits do you tend toward?

Oh, and if you want a chance to win a gorgeous NISI scarf to add to your wardrobe, don't forget to enter the giveway!
