A little over a year ago I mentioned on Facebook that I was going to start an academic fashion blog. A few friends commented that they thought it was a great idea. I started talking to Megarita and Ann Underfunded Humanity about the idea. I knew they were perfect because Megarita was the most stylishly dressed woman at a seminar that I attended. AUH has shown up to help me move twice. Both times she was wearing a skirt, as she lifted heavy boxes without complaint. Our blog has grown in terms of contributors. We went co-ed with the addition of thechemist-coture not long after we began. In the spring Herr Doktor joined us, and most recently we welcomed Shakespeare's Feminine Ending to our ranks. This year of blogging (and researching and writing and getting dressed) has flown by for us.
Our blog has also grown in terms of readers, and we thank each and everyone of you for reading. We have been blown away by your thoughtful and kind comments. And we are even grateful to the lurkers.
Next week we will celebrate our one year blogiversary with some giveaways, as well as the first panel of participants in our Back to School Conference. In the meantime, here are some of the posts that I think are most telling in who we have been and who we want to continue to be as Fashionable Academics:
On the Perils of Fashion
From Filene's Basement to Your Friend's Basement
Men with PhDs without Corduroy Jackets
Old like a fine wine, you mean....
Channeling My Inner Coco
Self-Fashioning: What Fashion Means to Me
Pierced Academics in Dialogue
Stylish Butch or Fashionable Femme
Wonder Women
Harem Pants and Gendered Assumptions
We look forward to another year of posting. We hope you look forward to another year of reading!
