Downtown Naples Florida could be a destination all its own. It is the heart and soul of Collier County and is affectionately known as "Old Naples".

There are many exciting events and attractions that you can enjoy no matter what time of year you visit the area. From shopping, to fine dining, music, water activities, and more, you'll find something for everyone in this beautiful town. Here is a look at just a few of the things to do in downtown Naples, Florida.

Naples Zoo

One great thing to do, especially if you have kids, is to visit the Naples Zoo. This zoo not only has exciting wild animals, but it is a historic tropical garden as well. There are presentations every day such as Snake Sunbathing, Meet the Keeper, Alligator Bay, just to name a few. The Primate Expedition Cruise is popular as well. This includes a cruise through islands that are inhabited by apes, monkeys, and even lemurs. Located on Goodlette-Frank Road near the Coastland Mall, the Naples Zoo is a non-profit charitable establishment.

Shopping and Fine Dining

If shopping and fine dining are on your list, then Downtown Naples, Florida is definitely a great place to be. 5th Avenue and Third Street in the downtown area provide both. The weather is usually pleasant, which makes it wonderful for strolling through all the great galleries and shops. Bistros and street-side cafes are numerous for your dining pleasure. For something casual, stop at Tin City for an array of tourist shops and waterside dining.

Naples Municipal Beach, Pier, and the City Dock

For those that enjoy the water, there are many great things to experience while visiting downtown Naples, Florida. You will want to check out the Naples Municipal Beach and Fishing Pier, which you'll find located on 12th Avenue South. The pier is a popular fishing spot and the beach is always lively. This is one of the sites that is most often photographed in the Naples area. So, plan to spend some time walking the beach and taking in the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. You can also take a stroll on the beautiful City Dock as well where you may see pelicans, manatee, dolphins, and other wildlife as well as interesting charter fishing boats and some incredible and exquisite yachts docked in the area.

Naples Historic District Walking Tour

The Naples Historic District Walking Tour is an excellent option if you enjoy history. You can tour the original city that is right on the Gulf, imagining the way it was years ago. On this tour you will visit the area where the grand Naples Hotel stood. Rose Cleveland, First Lady of the United States 1885-1886 was one of the famous guests. You will also see where the original gas station, theater, and general store were located. You'll even get to go through some of the neighborhoods where notable people lived in the past.

Of course, these are just a few of the great things to do while you are visiting downtown Naples, Florida. Whether you enjoy the tour, visit the beach, or check out the zoo, you are assured of a great time in this city.
