New Yorkers, Meet the Oscars®!
A Chance to Hold and be Photographed with an Actual Oscar® Statuette
Your fantasy of holding an Oscar is now within virtual and physical reach! The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciencesrecently launched an interactive Oscar-themed sidewalk display in New York City to promote the 83rd Academy Awards®presentation on Sunday, February 27, 2011.
Director of Marketing for the Academy, Janet Weiss, explained the “theme for this year’s Academy Awards presentation isYou’re Invited, and we have tried to extend that idea across as many platforms as possible. We’re excited that this innovated, interactive experience gives fans a fun new way to engage with and share in the Oscar.”
Located at 1333 Broadway, a nine-linked 46-inch LCD screen display (which utilizes the same touch screen technology as an iPad) gives patrons a virtual “red carpet experience.” As people walk through the display, motion detectors designed within the eight-foot high walls are triggered to enable a flood of flashing paparazzi cameras and spotlights; a complete “celebrity experience.” At either ends of the LCD screens, individuals are invited to pose for photos while “holding” a virtual Oscar® statuette! Once individuals “digitally” accept their Oscars®, the screens will allow them to share the moment by emailing their acceptance photo to family, friends or themselves! Lastly, patrons will receive an on-screen invitation to watch the presentation on ABC Network.
Though this virtual tower gives the illusion of holding an Oscar®, fans will have an opportunity to hold the real thing! On Wednesday, February 23, New Yorkers and visitors alike will be able to view the popular “Meet the Oscars” exhibit in Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central, also provided by the Academy. Viewers of the exhibit, which will be open daily through Sunday, February 27, will be given the chance to hold an actual Oscar statuette. CEO of Monster Media, Chris Beauchamp, praised the Academy, “Everyone [now] has a chance to connect with the Academy Awards…and who hasn’t dreamed of holding and Oscar? Well, now they can!”
The 83rd Academy Awards® presentation for outstanding film achievement of 2010 will be presented on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®. The Oscars® will be televised live in more than 200 countries and will be featured on the ABC Television Network. For further information, please visit www.oscars.org.
