Key Looks From the Winter/Spring Changeover
By Sam K Weller
This time of year it can be really hard to choose what to wear. Firstly you've got the weather to contend with; one day you might have to wrap up warm in gloves, scarves and a hat, then the next you're fine in just a jacket. Then there's the transition between Autumn/Winter 2010 and Spring/Summer 2011 to get your fashion head around. To help you look gorgeous during this uncertain period, here are some key looks for the winter/spring changeover.
A good coat
At this time of year it's still going to be cold throughout winter and spring, so you're going to need a good coat. As we're talking transitional outfits you won't want a super thick winter coat, yet nor will you want something that's too thin and light as that won't supply any of the warmth you need. The ideal coat for this time of year is the trench coat. This is because it's the right weight for this time of year and it's an absolute classic so is ideal for the transition between fashion seasons. If you don't fancy a trench coat then you could opt instead for a blazer. Again, this is a real classic so it's fantastic between seasons and it's not too heavy nor too light.
White
White is going to be a key colour this S/S so start working white into your wardrobe now. Whilst it's still winter go for a white shirt or blouse as you can layer this with a silk camisole, a V-neck jumper or cardigan and a jacket. Once the weather starts to get warmer you can start introducing even more white into your wardrobe. For a pretty and fresh look opt for a white sundress, or for something a bit sleeker go for a pair of white tailored trousers.
Bright colours
Bright vivid colours are also a big look for spring so start introducing them into your wardrobe now. In the cold weather you could go for a bright colour block scarf, or a pair of vivid blue or tangerine shoes. As it gets further into spring why not be more daring and start rocking ever more colourful looks. Hunt down a dress with two or three blocks of contrasting vivid colours, or contrast a brightly coloured top with a brightly coloured skirt. Whilst clashing colours are to be encouraged for this look, make sure your outfit won't blind people, cause fits, or make passers by vomit!
Layers
Invest in clothes you can layer and they'll take you right through from winter to spring. Wear skirts with thick tights and knee high socks now, then ditch the tights in spring. If you've got your eye on a pretty S/S top then buy it now and wear it with a silk camisole underneath or even wear it over another top. If you invest in key S/S items now you'll be ahead of the trend and making fashion waves before anybody else.
Sam Weller's kid thinks that girl clothes are bang on trend and you can find them in stored like Matalan.
