Yves Saint Laurent was one of the most influential fashion designers in the past century and the company founded by of the same name continues to be an important part of the industry. In addition to clothing, YSL also produces makeup, skincare and fragrances.
One of the most popular fragrances from a designer label ever to be created is the YSL Opium, a spicy oriental perfume that cause somewhat of a furor due to its controversial name and advertising.
The Yves Saint Laurent Opium features mandarin orange, clove, plum, pepper, coriander and bay leaf as its top notes. Middle notes are lily of the valley, jasmine, carnation, rose, cinnamon, peach and orris root.
Base notes consist of vetiver, tolu, patchouli, sandalwood, cedar, myrrh, amber, incense, musk, labdanum, benzoin and castoreum.
The YSL Opium perfume introduced a unique spicy scent at a time when oriental fragrances were relatively uncommon, and that in addition to its somewhat racy marketing led to its success.
