The Everyday: Introducing Wedding Photographer Tyler Branch

All photos by Tyler Branch.

Happy Monday, all!

Lately I've been obsessed with photograhers who have a knack for capturing the everyday. There's something so beautiful about finding grace in the tiny moments that would be easy to miss if we didn't stop to observe them carefully.

This series hopes to remind you of the way an image can witness the whimsical, to document the allure of a landscape or profile, and to capture life's radiance.

Wedding photographer Tyler Branch has a way of grasping happiness in portraits -- not only of the bride and groom on their special day, but also the loving guest who support them. His ability to move between the close up and the wide is also fascinating, and brings a lot of emotion and depth to his work.

Checking out his site takes my breath away.

Love Never Fails

Beautiful wedding photography by Clayton Austin.

This wedding took my breath away. I love her tattoo, and that the photographer named the title of his blog post featuring their photos after it.

I'm a sucker for gorgeous weddings and happy couples. Maybe it's a girl thing. Maybe it's a newlywed thing. Maybe some of you yogis can't relate and wouldn't mind if I didn't post wedding photography on the blog, but... I love it too much :)

Looking through the images allows me to think back to my big day and all those emotions, how much I love my husband, and how wonderful marriage truly is. May the photographs inspire you to reflect on love, too.

Love never fails.

And there is no fear in love

Beauty-Full

Holy moly, this is the sweetest wedding video ever. I love the ending! I'm inspired to get our wedding footage cut into a real story with music and all, now. It's time. It's been a while since August 7th... ha :)

Suddenly

All photos by Justin Battenfield, an Oklahoma wedding photographer.

PS A little love poem for your Saturday afternoon, by one of the greatest poets (and a favorite of mine). If you can read Spanish, check out Pablo Neruda's work in his native tongue. It is beautiful and tends to take your breath away.

Sonnet LXIX
by Pablo Neruda

Maybe nothingness is to be without your presence,
without you moving, slicing the noon
like a blue flower, without you walking
later through the fog and the cobbles,

without the light you carry in your hand,
golden, which maybe others will not see,
which maybe no one knew was growing
like the red beginnings of a rose.
In short, without your presence: without your coming
suddenly, incitingly, to know my life,
gust of a rosebush, wheat of wind:

since then I am because you are,
since then you are, I am, we are,
and through love I will be, you will be, we'll be.

Here's to a weekend filled with sudden hugs!

Marriage on the Mind

So yesterday I posted about this lovely ranch wedding, and then today I went back to the post on Sloan Photography and realized there was this amazing video to watch!

The interview is fantastic. Noah and Courtney tell their adorable and sometimes whimsical love story for about the first eight minutes, and then the rest is footage from their wedding day. I was totally moved, and couldn't stop smiling as I watched them together. He reminds me of Ryan Gosling and she has a natural beauty and effortlessness that is captivating. And you can tell from the video that they are made for each other.

It's great to see real couples who have a strong sense of why they are meant to be together, and how fully they want to spend their lives together. I love their thoughts on trust, caring for each other, and growing old together :)

I've also been reading Simple Marriage lately, a blog on ways to survive the ups and downs of marriage, how to keep things happy and healthy, and just fun ideas for dates with your spouse, or ways to get a break from the humdrum of everyday life.

I especially love their post on planned spontaneity, which you will totally appreciate if you are married! Sounds silly, but sometimes we have to schedule time with our spouse (and it rewards us greatly!).

There's also some great reading on setting reasonable goals together as a couple, what to do if things aren't great and you're just coexisting, and how to give a genuine apology.

Have you considered your relationships lately? Maybe you're doing your yoga and you've set personal health goals for the year, but haven't had the courage to look at where you are in relationship to others.

What can you give?

What can you let go of?

What haven't you addressed because it's hard, or holding you back?

Go ahead: decide to be together and to love each other better than you have been. You deserve it, and your partner does too. Sometimes change isn't easy, and sometimes love hurts. But with time and patience, we can change the way we relate to each other and treat each other.

You are in control of your relationships. Decide to love.

Be together; love each other. Photo via Yoganomics, an awesome online yoga community.

A Beautiful Ranch Wedding

All photos by Sloan Photography via Green Wedding Shoes.

I'm still pretty obsessed with all things wedding. I just can't get enough of the beautiful photography, delicate details, and the way that reading a blog like Green Wedding Shoes will remind me of our special day and how I just couldn't stop smiling. I so wish I could relive it again.

Thought I'd share this gorgeous couple's day with you. They had their celebration at a ranch, and they went all out. Check out that dress!

I especially love that they made custom CD playlists to give to family and friends as a favor. And their thumbprint family tree is so sweet!

New Photography Finds

Wedding photos via Paper + Lace.

This morning I stumbled upon some stunning wedding photos at Paper + Lace Photography that I couldn't resist sharing. I love the sense of candidness in the work.

Love that pooch!

Beachy kiss.

I also fell in love with the site An Afternoon With... In this innovative project, photographer Michael Mundy spends an afternoon with people in their spaces (generally gorgeous loft apartments or rooftops of urban buildings). The results are magical! Read more about the site here.

Minneapolis Giveaway: iPhone / iPod Touch Case

 Top photos by Alec Soth.

His "From Here to There" show is being featured at the Minneapolis Walker Art Center 'til January. If you go, write me a guest post!

Happy December, Minneapolis! I'm sad to hear about the Metrodome cave-in, but here's a little something to cheer you up. As a tribute to the Twin Cities, my wonderful cousins and our lovely Thanksgiving trip to MN, I'm featuring TWO giveaways from the land of 10,000 lakes.

What do you love about Minneapolis?

Our first MN giveaway comes from the hip Etsy seller LandmarksAndLions. Canyon Crosby of Landmarks and Lions is giving away this iPhone/ iPod Touch case of of a wonderfully soft wool blend felt. See below for contest details!

More about the iPhone / iPod Touch case from Canyon:
The idea for this case was to create something that was not simply functional, but vibrant and fun as well. Not only does the iPhone and iPod Touch fit perfectly snug in the case, but there is another space designed for business cards, credit cards, or whatever else can be slipped in. The wool felt makes it comfortable and easy to handle, while also providing protection against the environment.

About Canyon:

Landmarks and Lions came to life as a result of lots of planning for my upcoming wedding next year. We are having a destination wedding in Italy and so the original thought was to design a few things that my fiancée and I could use during our travels. I started out with totes, which led me to iPhone cases, and so on. Then at some point my fiancée suggested I design collections of these items, create an Etsy account, and see what happens. Well, here we are and I am having a great time.

My sole inspiration is the Mediterranean and the dreams we have had when planning for this experience, and so I like to use a more lively color theme in the design process because I feel it suits the place and lifestyle perfectly. Each accessory is handmade from our home / studio here in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where I design, cut, sew, and photograph everything you see.

On her goals for next year:

My primary focus is on the wedding. We have been looking forward to this for a long time now, and it is going to be one of those amazing experiences that we will be able to share with our family and friends. I am also really looking forward to creating more collections for Landmarks and Lions and seeing it grow into something that I could transition into full-time. I would be thrilled to see it become successful and to have the opportunity to work for myself.

To enter the contest, please:
  • Follow Alive in the Fire.
  • Leave a comment below describing your favorite item from LandmarksAndLions on Etsy.
  • Check out Landmarks and Lions' main site.
Shipping for the contest is international, so anyone can apply!

If you choose to do any of these, your chances double... you can contact Canyon here. See more shopping options. Add Landmarks and Lions on Facebook. Be sure to let me know to enter your name twice in the drawing.

Finally, we have a winner for the 105 Yoga giveaway! Congrats to Dre. Please contact me with your email address so I can put you in touch with Nancy. Thanks!
