Doctors at Dinner

Last Friday I took my husband out to dinner to celebrate his successful dissertation defense.  Since we had plans to go for ice cream at our favorite local shop and then to walk further downtown to see our city's major display of fourth of July fireworks, I knew that a comfy pair of shoes was in order.  I love heels, but if I know that I'll be walking a mile or so, I almost always opt for flats.  These Steve Madden's that I picked up for $19.99 at DSW are currently my favorite pair.¹

After dinner, we took our ice cream cones and ate them in one of our favorite parks.  I chose a scoop of sweet corn with black raspberries and one of wildberry lavendar for my waffle cone.  Yum!  Then we walked over to a friend's house for a drink with a few friends, including thechemist-coture and Herr Doktor.  We ended the night by walking towards downtown to watch the fireworks, enjoying a fantastic display and finally stopping at a bar for a final drink (mine was a diet coke since I was driving) before coming home.

I have to admit that I'm still over the moon about the fact that both M. and I have defended in the past month.  Friday was a perfect summer night and a great way to celebrate!  Now, I'm off to finish packing for my Italian honeymoon.  For those of you who are in the states, what did you do to celebrate the fourth of July?  Do you have any summer vacation plans?
