What Colors Should I Wear? - Skin, Hair and Eye Color

What Colors Should I Wear? - Skin, Hair and Eye Color
By Jan Hawken
"What colors should I wear?" This is a basic question asked by style-conscious women. The field of color analysis strives to offer useful and practical answers.
Several philosophies coexist about how best to respond to this question. Should skin, and/or hair, and/or eye color be considered when seeking to determine one's palette of best colors to wear? The majority of analysts believe that skin tone must be the major consideration.
- The first step is to determine the "warmth," "coolness," or "neutrality" of one's skin tone.
- The second step is to then identify the depth of tone on a scale that measures skin tone from lightness to darkness.
Your answers to these steps will determine the correct category of colors that will most flatter your complexion.
Additionally, some color analysts believe that one's hair, and perhaps also eye color, should be considered for the
- purpose of:
- Refining the best group of colors to wear, and
- To consider along with the skin tone to determine a subject's contrast level for the purpose of determining a palette of colors with appropriately similar contrast.
This necessarily opens the door to a new set of questions; "How does a sun tan effect my choice of best colors?" "My hair color has changed over the years. And sometimes I dye my hair. How does that effect my color choices?" Also, "I wear colored contact lenses. Does that make a difference?"
Analyst and author of Color Me a Season, Bernice Kentner, taught that skin color alone is the key to answering your question, "What colors should I wear?" She insisted that the answer should not consider hair and eye color. Most other analysts believe that skin tone is, indeed, the first and major consideration.

What Colors Should I Wear for a Romantic Effect?

What Colors Should I Wear for a Romantic Effect?
By Jan Hawken
What are the most romantic colors, and which ones will be harmonious with your skin tone? You're right to ask, "What colors should I wear?" Out of the millions of visible colors, a very particular group of those will be right for you, and from your personal palette, some of those colors will say, "Romance."
- Romance is sensuous, passionate, seductive and glamorous. So are the colors that convey romance. The first thing that makes a color romantic is its deep, dark intense color. Reds and red-violets, black, deep pinks, even dark reddish brown can be romantic. These are blood-deep colors; jewel tones.
- Romanticism can also be conveyed with some of the soft, pastel versions of the colors mentioned above. Pink or peach especially stand out. With pink as the central color, and when it is accompanied by smaller amounts of pastel blue or pastel purple, it looks especially beautiful and romantic. Curves, the touchability of a rich fabric, dramatic details...All convey a message of romance.
- The color black enhances the romantic quality of the dark, rich jewel tones when used as an accent. Black conveys mystery, strong feelings, power, and authority which can add to the thrill of romance. and we all know that darkened rooms can add intimacy to an atmosphere.
First, you need to ask yourself, "What colors should I wear?" Identify the ones that harmonize precisely with your skin tone through personal analysis. Then decide whether you're looking for "sweet romance," or "intense romance." Choose your colors accordingly.

What Are My Colors - 4 Forms of Makeup Foundation
What Are My Colors - 4 Forms of Makeup Foundation
By Jan Hawken
Women often make the mistake of skimping on the quality of their cosmetics. It's easier to get by with a lesser quality of makeup for color cosmetics. However, it's wise to purchase a high quality foundation with the characteristics that best enhance your skin type. We are going to look at 4, of 8 or so, foundation options. It is of utmost importance to ask yourself, "What are my colors?" and to get that answer correct. Your foundation must match your skin tone exactly to look it's best.
- Stick Foundation is best used by women who need extra heavy coverage to conceal blemishes such as a scar, red complexion and uneven skin coloring. This form does not work well for women with oily skin.
- Cream Foundation makes a wonderful choice because it can achieve as thin, or as heavy, a coverage as you need. Applied lightly from a damp sponge you will achieve the sheerest coverage. When heavy, it covers very well, and even makes a good concealer where needed.
- Cream-to-Powder Foundation often comes in a compact, brushes on with a sponge, and then dries to a powder, so really, it's like two products in one. Additional powder should not be necessary.
- Powder Compact Foundation is quite versatile. It can go on sheer or with a medium coverage, wet or dry. Many women prefer to carry foundation with them in this form because it fits very easily into a purse, and is quick and easy to apply.
Now that you've applied your foundation, you may ask yourself, "What are my colors?" once again, and begin to determine which ones suite you best for your color cosmetics.

Lip Exfoliating

Lip Exfoliating
So you have decided to exfoliate your lips. This is a good idea. Lip exfoliation makes your lips look better and a lot more healthy. The process of exfoliating your lips removes the most dead outer layer of skin on your lips which makes it look more appealing to most.
It helps your lips because it removes all the oil and dirt that is left on your lips. And it will make your lips look a lot better. It will also help reduce your chances of having pimples because it cleans your skin from all the dirt and excess oils on your face. So if you want your lips to look better you would look into lip exfoliating.
There are many methods to exfoliate your skin. The one you choose will depend on your preference, time, and money that you have available to use for lips. The first method you can use to exfoliate is to buy a lip scrubber. It will be rough so you can rub it against your skin to remove all the dead skin. You can buy these scrubbers at almost any retail store or just a beauty store. Another method is use chemicals. The chemicals will take care of the removing dead skin without your manual labor. So some might prefer this. You can also purchase them at almost any retail store. The second method is going to the spa. It is routine with almost all spa treatments to exfoliate the lips. Just make sure it actually does before you commit to going to the spa.

A Guide to Types of Foundation

A Guide to Types of Foundation
Author: Charlotte Bleasdale
For many women foundation, or base, is an everyday essential and for even more it's a must for when they get blemishes or need a little extra boost. But ensuring you have the right foundation is essential or you could get a covering that doesn't suit your skin type or shade. This guide should help highlight the main features of different types of foundation and what kind to use for your skin type.
Liquid (water or oil based)
A liquid foundation is extremely popular and versatile. You can choose from both water and oil based varieties with water based being best for oilier skin and oil based for those with dryer skin. The coverage of a liquid is completely reliant on how much you use which makes it great for anyone who wants versatility.
Creams
Creams are a fabulous choice for anyone with dry skin. The creamy texture gives a relatively thick coverage eliminating the need for concealer. Cream base gives a moisturised, dewy effect but because they're so moisturising they should not be used on combination skin.
Mousse
A current trend is the mousse foundation. Mousse or foam foundations give very light coverage. The advantage of this is that you don't feel it on your skin, but unfortunately it only gives a very light coverage. If you've got relatively good skin that just needs evening out a little mousse could be perfect for you!
Liquid to powder
Cream foundations that become a powder once applied are ideal for people with oily skin. The powdery texture will absorb excess oil but the liquid starting point makes it easy to apply. This variety lasts really well and gives a nice, even coverage.
Mineral make up
Mineral make up is the latest craze. Mineral make up is ideal for those with sensitive skin as it is hypoallergenic. It's also easy to build up your desired coverage with a mineral powder – just apply with a large brush.
Tinted moisturiser
A moisturiser with foundation or tinted moisturiser is perfect if you want light coverage that's good for your skin. Tinted moisturisers are a good starting point for teenage girls and work best on dry skin. You'll get a light, coverage that leaves your skin feeling smooth.
Choosing your favourite foundation should be based on your skin type, skin shade, favourite feel and look and favourite application technique. If you find one you like for all the categories then it's worth getting the two shades either side of your usual colour. That way if you have a tan or notice any changes in your skin tone you can mix your colour until it is just right!
